There’s something about September.
New planner.
Fresh displays.
Pens that all still work.
A desk that somehow stays tidy for at least a few days.
For a short while, it feels like this might be the year everything stays organised.
It rarely does.
Not because teachers aren't organised.
Quite the opposite.
Teaching involves keeping track of hundreds of tiny things every week. Lesson plans. Assessments. Displays. Coursework. Parents. Meetings. Revision. Somewhere in the middle of all that, you're also expected to remember where you put the stapler.
It isn't surprising that a few things occasionally slip through the cracks.
Teaching asks your brain to keep hundreds of small promises every day.
Some are written down.
Many aren't.
That's why I value anything that frees up a little mental space.
Not because a checklist is remarkable.
But because it allows your attention to stay where it's needed most.
Instead of wondering,
"Have I covered everything?"
you already have your answer.
The list remembers for you.
Which means your brain doesn't have to.
Keeping Revision Simple
When students begin revising, they often start with one question:
"Where do I begin?"
A clear checklist answers that before revision has even started.
Instead of feeling like one enormous subject, revision becomes a series of smaller steps.
One topic.
One tick.
Then the next.
It doesn't make revision easier.
It makes it clearer.
And sometimes that's exactly what's needed.
